Deputy Prime Minister of Japan in Sri Lanka

Deputy Prime Minister of Japan, Taro Aso, arrived in Sri lanka May 01st, as a follow up to the visit of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to Tokyo in March this year.
Taro Aso who arrived in the country was received by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the BIA Wednesday(May 01st) night. Minister WDJ Seneviratne and Deputy Minister Neomal Perera were also present.
Parliamentary Senior Vice Minister of Finance uko Obuchi also arrived in Sri Lanka with the Deputy premier. During their visit Aso and Obuchi will call on President Mahinda Rajapaksa to discuss bilateral relations with a view to further strengthening the long-standing ties between the two countries and will also visit the Colombo Port and Colombo Dockyard. Colombo Dockyard this year marks its 20th anniversary of partnership with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd. of Japan.
The Japanese Government provided financial assistance for upgrading and expansion of the Colombo Port. (MEDm/E97/D118)
