In 1957 at the age of 21, he was awarded Life Membership of the Ceylon Society of Arts for his achievement in designing and building his own home.

Dr, Jayasinghe emigrated to the United States of America in 1972. Having completed his Rotating Internship at Kern County General Hospital in Bakersfield California in 1973-1974, he served his Residency at the California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles from 1974-1977. Prior to the completion of his residency, Dr. Jayasinghe established a part-time General Practice clinic in downtown Los Angeles, in the Alvarado district of Los Angeles.

Dr. Jayasinghe was awarded a Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) at UCLA. His major was in Nutrition and his thesis was on Nutrition and Hypercholestremia. In addition to being a general physician, Dr. Jayasinghe’s Obstetrical and Gynecological background has helped the community immensely.

The Los Angeles Medical Center is a well known health care provider in the downtown Los Angeles area. The location of its clinics in areas where the neighboring community is largely underprivileged and predominantly Hispanic emphasizes the company’s focus on and its commitment to serve such communities.

Dr. Jayasinghe maintains his ties with the country of his origin, its culture and its religion; he is the Founder-Chairman of the Institute of Buddha Dhamma Studies – a non-profit organization in the State of California. He is a founder trustee of the Los Angeles Buddhist Vihara of Pasadena. He also plays an active role in the North America Alumni of his Alma Maters – Ananda College and St. Peter’s College, Colombo.

Dr. Jayasinghe is also a member of the Rotary Club of Los Angeles and is closely associated with the many charitable philanthropic activities of the club.

Dr. Jayasinghe was a winner of Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1992 sponsored by Ernst & Young, Inc. Magazine, Merrill Lynch, THE BUSINESS CHANNEL and Real Estate Journal in the “socially responsible” category.

Dr. Jayasinghe was elected by the area residents to PAC Committee of the local area CRA (Community Redevelopment Agency) in 1994 and is still an active member.

In April of 2003 he incorporated the SRI LANKA FOUNDATION. Its primary mission is to promote Sri Lankan culture in the United States and globally.
Dr. Jayasinghe is an American entrepreneur in the classical mold; one who has not forgotten his roots and the country of his birth. Nevertheless, he has an abiding love for the country of his adoption, especially for the area in which he has served the community for the past 30 years – the Wilshire/Alvarado district of downtown Los Angeles. He has a simple philosophy – that growth and progress are synonymous; if an institution or an individual ceases to expand and grow, then it has virtually ceased to exist.
